What Do I Know of Holy?

I've been listening to this song "What Do I Know of Holy?" by Addison Road. Here are the lyrics:

"I made You promises a thousand times. I tried to hear from Heaven but I talked the whole time. I think I made You too small. I never feared You at all. If You touched my face would I know You? Looked into my eyes could I behold You?

What do I know of You, who spoke me into motion? Where have I even stood, but the shore along Your ocean? Are You fire? Are You fury? Are You sacred? Are You beautiful? What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

I guess I thought that I had figured You out. I knew all the stories and I learned to talk about how You were mighty to save. Those were only empty words on a page. Then I caught a glimpse of who You might be...the slightest hint of You brought me down to my knees.

What do I know of You, who spoke me into motion? Where have I even stood but the shore along Your ocean? Are You fire? Are You fury? Are You sacred? Are You beautiful? What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

What do I know of Holy? What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame? And a God who gave life "its" name? What do I know of Holy?Of the One who the angels praise? All creation knows Your name, on earth and heaven above. What do I know of this love?

God. He's not about church on Sunday mornings or trying to find that perfect verse in scripture that deals with what we're going through in life right now. Some people reading this have known God their whole life and think they are pretty strong in their faith; others reading this are still on the fence about what they believe. No matter where you or I stand... I think there is one thing we all have in common - we don't even have but a glimpse of who we think God is. With all the books, churches, bible studies, etc etc etc... we still don't have any notion of the vastness or greatness of God's nature or power. We've tried defining God with our limited imaginations and understandings. Then I thought about this: If those who encountered Him, fell to the ground unable to move, could barely breathe, were muted and blinded by His Holiness, overpowered by His presence... and even the demons in hell fear Him and shudder at the mention of His Name - then this is not the same God you and I think we know. Not by a long shot.

Imagine that you had never seen or read or heard about the Grand Canyon - ever. Imagine you had no idea something like that ever existed - all you could even dream up, was... a sandbox. That's the greatest and most grandest thing you could think of. I am starting to think it's the same with our notion of God. With all our reading and discussions and all we've seen, experienced or touched - we have never really encountered the Living... Powerful, Majestic and Holy GOD. How can we possibly know of this kind of "Holy"? This God is too big, too powerful and too deep. Maybe if we search and seek hard enough, there will be moments in our lives where we will have a glimpse of this God... be brought to our knees in tears with hearts beating out of our chests, silenced and unable to speak because we are so overtaken by Him and His presence and who He is... imagine!!!

I tried to find this song in its entirety to add to this entry, as it was what initiated these thoughts for me... but all I could find was the following link. You can watch the pictures or just close your eyes and imagine this kind of God as you listen to this song. What do we know of 'Holy'?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8fSjtPLuBQ
